The above three terms are the basic landmarks for enabling a Robust Childhood. They are well associated with each other.
First let’s learn “What the three terms mean”
‘Proper Education’ about one’s self and the surroundings and Healthy and right Nutrition Habits are undoubtedly the source of a Good and Healthy generation.
The impact of education on health behaviors likely stems from, education’s impact on skills as well as socioeconomic status.
Let’s dig a little deeper.
What is Nutrition Education?
It’s any combination of educational strategies, accompanied by environmental support, designed to facilitate voluntary adoption of food choices and other food and nutrition related behaviors conductive to health and well-being.
But why is this important…. Education efforts that help individuals and families make healthy choices, are clearly an important part to our overall health and can make a big difference for families with young children all the way to our senior citizen.
Nutrition Education is an essential component in improving dietary habits and food choices in order to reverse the under nutrition and improve the Nutritional diagnosis. Poor dietary habits and lack of physical activity can be the main reason for poor nutritional status among the population.
Advantages of Healthy Diet Practices:
- Less likely to be susceptible to diseases [due to malnutrition]
- Maintain weight control
- Proper bone and teeth strength
- Higher energy levels
- Good brain health
Role of Nutrition in Illness: The role of Nutrition in maintaining health and preventing diseases is very simple to understand. The food we eat and the nutrients they should provide, are the most important continuing environmental factors that influence our growth, development, functional abilities and health.
Community and Public Health:
This can be achieved By:
- Promoting environments that foster healthy eating habits.
- Making the right food choice, the easy choice.
- Providing resources that will support actions to reduce poor nutrition, that may result in chronic disease, if not addressed.
- Working with disadvantaged groups such as those on low income and those living with very young children and their families.
- Advice on weight management for children and women.
Providing expertise to help community organizations and councils, develop and apply healthy food and beverage policies. Well designed Nutritional Education programs can lead to healthier food choices among low-income families who participate in the supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program [SNAP], according to a study.
When children at a very early age are taught about right food and it’s benefits to mankind, they are less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as smoking and drinking and are more likely to have health behaviors related to diet and exercise.
Let’s learn and implement the right policies to save lives.
