Early, Nurture and Development of a child, physically and mentally is of utmost importance, and that is surely the “Priority”!!!
What is Early Childhood Development?
Early child development (ECD) encompasses physical, socio emotional, cognitive and motor development between 0-8 years of age. The early years are critical since this is the period when the brain develops most rapidly and can accept change and learn faster so the foundation for health and wellbeing is laid throughout life.
ECD is a priority area of work for World Health Organization, as it is a window of opportunity to improve health and equity. A continuum of care – from preconception through the formative early years – is needed to safeguard and maximize children’s developmental outcomes. The health sector has a key role to play. It has the potential to reach many families and children during pregnancy, childbirth and early childhood, and is poised to deliver effective interventions for optimal development of young children
A child being nurtured in a sound and safe environment is able to, develop better cognitive and behavioural skills as compared to a child who is brought up in an abusive or incoherent environment. The immediate environment, especially the parents, are huge contributors in developing a safe early childhood.
Importance of Childhood Development…
Neurological research shows that the early years play a key role in children’s brain development. Children’s early experiences – the bonds they form with their parents and their first learning experiences – deeply affect their future physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.
Nurturing care is care that is provided in a stable environment, that is sensitive to children’s health and nutritional needs, with protection from threats, opportunities for early learning, and interactions that are responsive, emotionally supportive and developmentally stimulating.
Factors that influence a child’s development
Countless factors, from family and environment to genes and biology, influence a child’s growth and development. These factors affect the physical, mental, and social development of growing children, along with their health and well-being.
The right intervention can boost development and enable the children to get a good start to their life. Let’s together help enable a safe and sound future for our children. Log on to our expert team ‘Ekam’ at www.ekamoneness.org to learn how we can achieve this.
Optimizing the early years of children’s lives is the best investment we can make as a society in ensuring their future success.
