The Big Problem—Drinking water situation has always been a questionable one in most parts of our country, especially on the rural side. The rural population has been facing a considerable lack of clean water supply for too long.
The consequence of the Issue—About 300,000 Indians die every year due to insufficient access to safe water, and about 600 million face extreme water stress.
Solution— India needs to prioritize and make appropriate interventions to solve its water problems. Water conservation and irrigation require a massive effort based on public participation.
Our Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi sets the goal for piped water to reach all homes in the countryside by 2024. This is a very tough target to set at a time when hundreds of millions don’t have access to clean water. Mr Modi has combined various water agencies into one single portfolio to deal with the issues, that include polluted rivers and the shortage of clean drinking water. India’s water demand is predicted to be double its supply by 2030. Mr Modiji has requested the village heads to join hands to construct check dams and banks along river and streams to tackle the water crisis.
Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Har Ghar Jal Scheme [National Water Conservation Scheme 2019-20]
This scheme is launched to save water. Inspired by Mr Prime Minister, the Jal Shakti Abhiyan [JSA] is a time-bound, water conservation campaign. The JSA will run in two parts: Stage 1– from 1st July to 15th September 2019 for all States and Union Territories; and Stage 2– from 1st October to 30th November 2019 for States and UTs receiving the retreating monsoon. The JSA aims at making water conservation a Jan Andolan through asset creation and communication. Our Government has started a water conservation scheme that would focus on the renovation of water bodies, regulating industrial consumption, harvesting rainwater and reuse of wastewater. The Government wants to make Jal [Water] shakti[strength] a Jan Andolan [people’s movement].
We at EKAM Foundation, help the Government to support the urban population. Ultimately it is a whole community that we are trying to serve and save by providing clean drinking water. Water is the source of our lives. It is not just water, but Clean Water that will keep diseases and infections away.
